The short version. Sentio works fully offline and is completely usable without an account. Your measurements are stored on your device. Nothing is sent to us unless you choose to sign in and sync. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third party receives your data.
Who we are
Sentio is an independent app developed by Vladimir Bloshchitsyn. For anything in this policy, including requests to access or delete your data, contact info@sntio.org.
What stays on your device
Everything the app measures is recorded and analysed on the device itself. That includes your measurements and their extracted features, the catalog you organise them in (categories, objects, scenarios), the labels you add, your calibration data, and app settings.
If you never sign in, none of this ever leaves your phone, and we have no way of seeing it or knowing that it exists.
Sensors: what the app does, and what it does not keep
Sentio's measurement tools read your phone's sensors while a measurement is running. The sensor data is processed on the device and discarded when the measurement finishes.
| Sensor | Used for | What is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | Sound spectra, and measuring how an object rings and damps when tapped | Only the computed features. No audio recording is stored or transmitted. |
| Camera | Colour, brightness, flicker and polarisation measurements, with exposure and white balance locked | Only the computed values. No photograph or video is captured or stored. |
| Accelerometer, vibration motor, torch | Active measurements where the phone excites an object and records the response | Only the computed features. |
| Bluetooth | Discovering and connecting a second handset for two-phone measurements | Nothing. Scanning is declared neverForLocation and is never used to derive your location. |
The app requests each of these permissions only for the features above, and the sensors are active only while a measurement is running.
What we receive if you sign in
Signing in is optional and the app is fully functional without it. Its only purpose is to sync your catalog between your own devices. If you sign in with Google, we receive and store:
- Your Google account identifier, email address and name, from Google Sign-In — used to identify your account and to associate your synced data with it.
- The catalog data you sync — your measurements and the objects and scenarios you organise them under, exactly as your device produced them.
We use this only to provide the sync feature. We do not analyse it, profile you with it, or use it to train anything.
What we never collect
- No analytics or usage tracking of any kind — the app contains no analytics SDK.
- No advertising, no ad SDK, and no advertising ID.
- No location data.
- No photographs, video, or audio recordings.
- No contacts, no calendar, no files from your device.
Who else sees your data
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone for their own purposes. Two service providers process it strictly on our behalf:
- Google, for Google Sign-In, if you use it. Your use of Google Sign-In is also governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Cloud Platform, which hosts the sync service and its backups.
Synced data is stored in the United States (Google Cloud region
us-central1).
We may disclose data if we are legally required to do so.
Security and retention
All communication between the app and our service uses HTTPS; the app does not permit unencrypted connections. Synced data is stored on our server for as long as your account exists, plus up to 30 days in rolling backups, after which it is overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- Don't sign in. The app is fully usable signed out, and then nothing reaches us at all.
- Delete individual measurements at any time in the app.
- Delete your account and all synced data — see Deleting your account.
- Access, correct or export your data, or object to its processing, by emailing info@sntio.org. If you are in the UK, EU or EEA, these are your rights under the GDPR, and you may also complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in California, you may exercise the equivalent rights under the CCPA; we do not sell personal information.
Data you have not synced is under your control alone: uninstalling the app removes it.
Children
Sentio is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for any change that materially affects what we collect or how we use it, we will give notice in the app before the change takes effect.
